3 ways Planned Parenthood is lying to keep its taxpayer funding

Planned Parenthood, abortion corporation

Planned Parenthood and their allies are two things: desperate and deceptive. America’s Abortion Corporation is in the fight of its life — ironic, since it ends the lives of so many children who fight for theirs — and has worked itself into a frenzy to keep its taxpayer funding. In the last reported year (Planned Parenthood still has not made its annual report for 2016 public), 43% of Planned Parenthood’s budget comes from taxpayer dollars.

Of course, Planned Parenthood would like to keep those millions, and is busy spreading deceptions — with the help of its allies — so that Congress does not redirect its funding to the comprehensive health care clinics that outnumber Planned Parenthood 20-1 across the nation.

Let’s debunk five lies being told by or for Planned Parenthood these days:

1. Planned Parenthood provides mammograms.

No, no, no, no, no, they do not.

Even Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards had to admit this to Congress in 2015, despite her own claims to the contrary. It’s a great PR strategy, making American women believe they’ll lose mammogram care if Planned Parenthood is defunded, but it’s absolutely false. Additionally, Planned Parenthood performs 1.8% of the nation’s clinical breast exams. So much for all the fanfare. Someone please share the video below with former Planned Parenthood board member and former candidate for DNC Chair, Jehmu Greene, Sen. Chuck Schumer, and ACLU Deputy Legal Director, Louise Melling:

2. Paul Ryan’s districts wouldn’t be served without Planned Parenthood.

Since Ryan is the Speaker of the House, Planned Parenthood’s allies are spouting the claim that, by attempting to redirect taxpayer funding to federally qualified health care centers (FQHC), Ryan is taking health care away from his own district. The Huffington Post went after Ryan’s claim that FQHCs and community health care centers are “in virtually every community providing the same kinds of services.” The Post said:

But that’s not even true in his own district, where 6,000 women rely on Planned Parenthood for health care, according to the family planning provider. In Racine and Walworth counties, where nearly half of Ryan’s constituents live, there are two Planned Parenthood health centers and zero federally qualified community health centers offering family planning services.

The article went on to quote a local activist for Planned Parenthood, who lives in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and says that “There’s literally nowhere else to go for family planning.”

But, oops, yes there is.

A mere 10 miles from Racine, Wisconsin, is Kenosha, Wisconsin, where there are multiple community health care centers. (See for yourself on the map available at GetYourCare.org.) Technically, yes, this is in a different county. However, having to drive 10 miles to access health care is not a great feat. The website for the FQHC provider in Kenosha states, “All patients are served on a sliding fee scale based on ability to pay – no one is turned away.” OB-GYN care and family planning services are available. Why The Huffington Post thought it was a good idea to quote someone from Kenosha and let them claim there was nowhere else to go but Planned Parenthood is rather baffling.

In Elkhorn, Wisconsin (in Walworth County), Mercy Hospital runs a medical center that provides family planning and other OB-GYN services for women. The Mercy Hospital network gives discounts to uninsured patients, and also offers some free services:

For patients with limited or no ability to pay, we extend a variety of financial assistance measures… Mercyhealth’s Community Care Program is our Traditional Charity Program under Mercyhealth Financial Assistance Policy. Under our Community Care program, you may apply for and qualify for reduced prices or free services, depending on your eligibility.

Clearly, we can call foul on the attempted attack on Speaker Ryan here.

3. It’s up to each woman to decide when life begins.

Sigh. No one gets a free pass on science. Planned Parenthood Vice President, Dawn Laguens, spoke with Tucker Carlson, refusing to answer his question on whether the fact that abortion stops a beating heart troubles her at all. Again and again, she insisted that each woman has to make her own decision. Apparently, according to Laguens’s talking points — which include a refusal to comment on whether the fetal heartbeat indicates a new life — each woman can decide for herself whether the child she is aborting is a living human being or nothing at all.

The facts, however, tell us something different. Here are 40 quotes from medical experts, telling us that life begins even before the first heartbeat. It begins at conception, plain and simple. A choice to have an abortion doesn’t change the fact that abortion ends a new, unique life.

Perhaps Dawn Laguens and Planned Parenthood’s other spokespeople could watch the video below, where a former abortionist explains what happens to a new life during one of the most common abortion procedures performed by Planned Parenthood. Then, next time, they might be able to answer Carlson’s question: “What is being aborted?”
