ADF files brief seeking details of HHS grant to Planned Parenthood of New England

Alliance Defending Freedom has filed a brief with the Supreme Court to reveal the truth behind federal grants to Planned Parenthood of New England.

In 2011, New Hampshire chose to deny the abortion giant’s affiliate a Title X subgrant based on suspicion the group was directing money toward abortion, opting instead to direct the money toward hospitals and community health centers. In response, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services gave them a $1 million sole source non-competitive replacement grant to provide Title X family planning services.

New Hampshire Right to Life has been battling in court ever since, with a Freedom of Information Act request attempting to force the Obama Administration to release documentation surrounding the grant, which the White House has only partly released, maintaining that such a disclosure would harm Planned Parenthood’s “competitive position” in seeking future grants.

“At the very least, the government must be transparent about this money,” ADF Senior Counsel Casey Mattox argues. “Since Planned Parenthood is already the subject of repeated state and federal audits and whistleblower lawsuits for waste, abuse, and potential fraud of taxpayer dollars, not to mention ongoing federal and state investigations over possible baby parts trafficking, the government should comply with the law and come clean about the funding.”
