BREAKING: Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia dead at age 79

Supreme Court Justice and renowned legal mind Antonin Scalia, 79, has passed away while on vacation in Texas.

Scalia was known for his adherence to the U.S. Constitution and for decisions that preserved original legislative intent. His rulings were consistently in opposition to recognizing a Constitutional right to abort a child in the womb.

Live Action President Lila Rose reacted to the news saying:

Many times, Justice Scalia stood up for life and our Constitution. May he rest in peace. The Senate must not accept President Obama appointing another extreme, pro-abortion justice. Now we must fight harder than ever to elect a pro-life President who understands the judiciary and will appoint a worthy replacement.

Republican Sen. Mike Lee, who sits on the Judiciary committee, has said that no nominee from Obama should be considered according to a report by David Brody of CBN. With Republicans controlling the Senate, this means that the choice to replace Scalia will likely sit with the next President of the United States.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott in a statement said of Scalia:

“He was the solid rock who turned away so many attempts to depart from and distort the Constitution.”

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell added:

“The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new President.”
