Prior to a planned House vote on removing Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding, Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) pledged to “personally call every Senator [she] know[s] so that we can get this measure to the President’s desk.”
Every single Member of Congress, pro-life and pro-choice alike, should want to ensure that laws are followed and that taxpayer dollars are spent with integrity,” Black said. “That’s not an ideological extreme- that’s called doing our job.”
She further noted that defunding the abortion giant would “not cut a single dime from public health funding,” but rather would “reallocat[e] funding to the more than 13,500 facilities nationwide that provide true preventive care to those who need it most.”
Black declared that “we face big challenges in Congress this fall, but nothing – nothing – could be more important than how we treat a human life.”
As Live Action News has covered over the past several months, Black is the lead sponsor of the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015, and has been one of the most outspoken members of Congress on Planned Parenthood’s federal subsidies and their activities exposed by the Center for Medical Progress. However, this week Rep. Steve King (R-IA) criticized her bill for not going far enough in ensuring Planned Parenthood never receives any tax dollars.
