Planned Parenthood’s rejection of President Trump’s funding deal shows its focus is abortion

The long awaited replacement bill to the Affordable Care Act was released by the House GOP on Monday night. The bill included defunding Planned Parenthood, as Live Action News reported. Planned Parenthood doesn’t need to lose its funding, though, as President Trump actually offered to keep its funding if it ceases abortions. Planned Parenthood, however, flatly refused.

As the New York Times reported, Planned Parenthood may even receive more federal earmarks if it discontinues abortions. After emphasizing that it cannot legally use federal funds for most abortions (with some exceptions), Executive Vice President of Planned Parenthood Dawn Laguens also sought to categorize abortion as part of the group’s health care services:

“Let’s be clear: Federal funds already do not pay for abortions,” Dawn Laguens, the executive vice president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said on Monday. “Offering money to Planned Parenthood to abandon our patients and our values is not a deal that we will ever accept. Providing critical health care services for millions of American women is nonnegotiable.”

Federal money may not be technically able to go to most abortions, but it is fungible, freeing up funds for Planned Parenthood to focus on abortion. Moreover, despite Laguens’ talking points, abortion is not health care, especially since it is never necessary to protect a mother’s health. In this declaration, 140 medical professionals explain how abortion is not medically necessary. Often, a C-section can instead be performed with the intention to save both the mother’s life and the child’s life. There is no medical need to guarantee the child’s death by killing her prior to delivering her. Former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino explains further:

President Trump provided a statement on defunding Planned Parenthood to the New York Times:

“As I said throughout the campaign, I am pro-life and I am deeply committed to investing in women’s health and plan to significantly increase federal funding in support of nonabortion services such as cancer screenings,” he said. “Polling shows the majority of Americans oppose public funding for abortion, even those who identify as pro-choice. There is an opportunity for organizations to continue the important work they do in support of women’s health, while not providing abortion services.”

The president’s hope to fund cancer screenings and other real health care for women is noble, though he may want to look elsewhere besides Planned Parenthood. The organization has just a 0.97-percent U.S. market share in pap smears, a 1.8-percent market share in clinical breast exams, and a zero-percent market share in mammograms, since it cannot perform them and knows it but has still lied about it to deceive the public in hopes of gaining support. Planned Parenthood’s own most recent figures report a decrease in legitimate health care services at the abortion chain — some of which have been going on for years.

By stubbornly clinging to abortion and demanding federal taxpayer funding for the biggest and most notorious abortion chain in the nation — itself — Planned Parenthood shows where its true loyalties lie: with abortion. Somehow, Planned Parenthood still thinks it deserves taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars, even though it has been racked with scandalcorruption, and fraud and recommended for criminal charges and to the FBI, in addition to taking the lives of millions of innocent, helpless human beings.

Live Action has recently published a new series of investigative videos with Planned Parenthood staff detailing how the organization does not provide prenatal care at most of its locationsdoes not perform ultrasounds unless they are done for abortionhas abortion quotasdoes not provide real health care, and does not treat women well.

Planned Parenthood doesn’t work for women; it works for abortion. Let’s defund America’s Abortion Corporation now.
